Wimbledon, London
Residential architecture and design
Our client for this project, a developer, had planning approval for a house in Wimbledon and commissioned our input on the design. The site was sensitive because it was within an existing garden and contained several protected trees. Nevertheless, working within the constraints established by the existing approval, and a very competitive budget, we redesigned the house and obtained permission for our new design.
The layout is L-shaped, with rooms set at half levels off the main stair, and areas that interconnect with a minimum of circulation space. We developed a more considered section with a design that gives all the advantages of open plan living, while still allowing for the practicality, privacy and separation afforded by individual rooms. This house has a relatively modest footprint, but opens out with almost tardis-like qualities once inside.
